The 125th edition of the Rogers Cup, one of the top ATP Masters 1000 tournaments that takes place in the city of Toronto, Canada (for the men) and in the city of Montreal, Canada (for the women).

This year the men’s tournament took place at the Rexall Centre where the French player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga managed to win the final over the Swiss Roger Federer. This is the fourth straight victory of the French over a top-10 opponent.

Tsonga was able to upset top-seeded and world number one, the Serbian Novak Djokovic in the third round of the tournament, then eighth-seeded Andy Murray in the quarter-finals and No. 7 seeded Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals.

“I’m working hard, my motivation came back,” who has battled knee problems over the last two years. “I want to win, I want to play my best tennis on the court. And it happened today. I think for me it’s going to be a new motivation because just last year I always lost against those guys and it was really frustrating for me,” he said. “Then today a win against (Federer), it’s good for me, it’s good for my ambition and it’s good for my career.” said Tsonga.

On the women´s end, Agnieszka Radwanska defeated Venus Williams in straight sets to win her first tournament of the season. The new champion of Polish descendant Agnieszka Radwańska is currently ranked World No. 5 by the e WTA. “I think I was playing much better every match,” Radwanska said. “I didn’t start that well from my first match, but every match was much better. That’s why I think I’m sitting right here now with you (reporters). I was feeling the balls much better.”

Canadian favorite Milos Raonic got into the quarter finals and there were high hopes that he will meet in a semifinal clash with Roger Federer, but he got ousted by the Spaniard Lopez. Spain’s Feliciano Lopez eliminated Raonic from the Rogers Cup with a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3 quarter-final victory in front of a surprised crowd at Rexall Centre.
