Roland Garros 2014


The tennis world is preparing for the second most followed event of the ATP Tour – Roland Garros which is played on clay surfaces. This marvelous event gathers the top male and female players of both tours (ATP & WTA) for a period of two weeks using a bracket format to determine the daily matches between top seeded players, wildcards and amateurs.

The history of Roland Garros dates back to the creation of the Association of Tennis Professionals in 1972, becoming a turning point in the way the circuit was created and the tournaments were played.  As of that moment, different tournaments were to take place around the world and the players had to compete to stay in the top rankings which was a main factor that contributed to the sport greatly.

Most top ranking players have confirmed their assistance at the event which this year will offer a prize money of approximately 21,017,000.

Defending champion, Spaniard Rafael Nadal leads the rankings as the favorite to win followed by names like: David Ferrer, Stanilas Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Juan Martin del Potro and Thomas Berdich. The Men´s single trophy known as the Coupe des Mousquetaires could have a new holder if Nadal does not meet the challenge ahead.
