2014 Preakness Stakes Winner - California Chrome

2014 Preakness Stakes Winner – California Chrome

This past Saturday at Baltimore´s most famous racetrack – Pimlico race course; the 139th edition of the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes took place, delivering unprecedented surprises as the favorite to win the race was up to the test.

The chestnut colt named California Chrome that only two weeks ago won the Kentucky Derby was also the favorite to win the Preakness Stakes and so it did.

This is Victor Espinoza´s  (jockey) second straight victory and it seems Espinoza is hoping to carry out one more win in order to achieve the awaited triplet; a task that has not been met by any horse/jockey since 1978.

This beautiful and strong colt of humble breeding managed to cover 1 3/16 miles in 1:54.84 while defeating its closest opponent Ride On Curlin by 1 1/2 lengths. California Chrome has won on its way to the Triple Crown 6 straight races and has raised the expectations so high among thousands of horse racing enthusiasts worldwide.

California Chrome´s co-owner Steve Coburn and trainer Art Sherman stated they could not be happier and hope to witness the horse become a legend.

“I don’t mean to be bold or cocky or arrogant,” Coburn said. “I saw this baby when he was a day old, I told my wife, `Carolyn, this horse is going to do something big. I don’t know what it is, but we’re going to stay in the game to make sure this colt gets to be the best that he can be.”‘ “We just hope that this horse is letting America know that the little guy can win,” Coburn said.
