NFC: 2 Green Bay Packers @ 1 Seattle Seahawks
On Sunday, January 18th the Conference Championships game begin in the beautiful city of Seattle as the defending champions – the Seahawks. Seattle, of course, is favored to win this year’s Super Bowl and are currently listed at 5-to-4, followed by the Patriots (8/5), Packers (5/1) and Colts (8/1).
Way back 19 weeks ago, the Seahawks beat the Packers 36-16 in Seattle in the NFL’s season opener. Since then, not only did the other 30 teams play their first games of the season, but 28 of those 30 are now in offseason mode.
Seattle’s offense outgained Green Bay by nearly 150 yards, controlling both the ball and the clock, while the defense held Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense in check. There’s a rematch Sunday with the NFC championship on the line, only these Seahawks aren’t exactly those Seahawks, and these Packers aren’t exactly those Packers.
The Seahawks have used a balanced offensive approach to make up for the loss of Harvin’s services — though it should be said that Harvin didn’t have all that great a year while he was in Seattle — with Russell Wilson spreading it around to Doug Baldwin,Jermaine Kearse, Luke Willson, Cooper Helfet and more while also featuring a heavy dose of both Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin in the running game. The defense, of course, despite a mid season downturn to mere “good” play, is back at the height of its powers.
There is no doubt, The Packers are just hoping that the improvements they’ve made are not only greater than the improvements the Seahawks have made, but also that there’s been significant enough change to turn a 20-point loss into an NFC Championship win.
“It’s been a lot of games, a lot of weeks that have passed,” tight end Andrew Quarless said. “I think this team from Week 1 has grown a lot. We’re definitely looking forward to it. I don’t think it’s the same team. But probably them, too. I’m sure they’ve gotten better. But just to see the growth and the resilience of this team throughout the whole season is positive.” source: foxsports.com
