2014 March Madness Tournment

The college basketball single-elimination championship that takes place every spring in the US is also known as March Madness.   A total amount of 68 college basketball teams participate in the tournament to select the national championship of college basketball.

The tournament teams include champions from 32 Division I conferences and 36 teams which are awarded at-large berths. This fantastic college basketball tourney takes place during the course of three weekends and each team is “seeded”, or ranked, within its region.

March Madness  games have been televised since 1969 by millions of Americans and worldwide.

Rounds

The tournament has several rounds and these are:

  • The First Four

  • The Second Round (also known as “the Round of 64”)

  • The Third Round (also known as “the Round of 32”)

  • The Regional Semi-finals (participating teams are known popularly as the “Sweet Sixteen”)

  • The Regional Finals (participating teams are known commonly as the “Elite Eight”)

  • The National Semi-finals (participating teams are referred to officially as the “Final Four”)

  • The National Championship

Some of the latest college basketball action is still taking place as on Thursday´s night No. 24 Memphis finishes on 18-6 run to upset No. 12 Louisville 73-67.  Joe Jackson and Shaq Goodwin each scored 15 points while Geron Johnson added 13 more points.

On the other hand, Chris Crawford scored 12 points and Austin Nichols 10 as all five starters scored nicely in double figures to push the Tigers end a four-game losing streak.

In Los Angeles, No. 1 Arizona beats UCLA 79-75 to go to 16-0, the Wildcats (3-0 Pac-12) held on despite blowing a 13-point lead with 6:16 to play and committing a season-worst 17 turnovers.
