The 2015 NCAA Tournament tips off March 17-18 with the First Four games taking place at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV will have coverage of every game throughout the tournament. But there is a lot of basketball still to be played and any team could potentially hit the skids, but teams like Georgetown and Villanova figure to make the tournament. There are also teams with a lot of work left to do to make the Big Dance in March. These five Big East teams are on the bubble right now.
The Blue Demons have some good wins, with victories over Xavier and Seton Hall, but they have not done nearly enough to get into the tournament. They have two games left against both Providence (Tuesday night’s was postponed) and Butler, as well as a game against Georgetown, so the Blue Demons can add some quality wins to their resume. But realistically, chances are DePaul does not make the field come Selection Sunday.
The Golden Eagles are usually a tough out when March rolls around, but they will have a difficult time just getting into the tournament this year. Marquette does have a win over Providence, but quality wins have been hard to come by. They still have two games left against Villanova and Butler as well as a game with Xavier, so they can improve their resume, but it’s doubtful that Marquette makes the field.
St. John’s only really good win is their victory over Providence, but they also have only one bad loss, which was to DePaul. They have some solid wins, including a win over Syracuse, but the road win over the Friars is the Red Storm’s only top 50 win this season. They’ve had to deal with some injuries and while they could certainly get into the tournament, if the Selection Committee met today.
The Pirates have good wins over Villanova, St. John’s and George Washington along with a bad loss at the hands of DePaul. They looked good early in the season and appeared to be heading towards being a lock to make the tournament. They would probably make the field if the tournament started today, but they have lost five of their last seven. The Pirates certainly need to right the ship for their last 12 games of the season.
Xavier has good wins against Georgetown (twice), Seton Hall and Alabama but bad losses against DePaul and Auburn (which they should have won). They have been better at home (six top 100 wins) than on the road (four top 100 losses and one win). If the tournament began today Xavier would probably sneak in, but they do not have a lot of room for error down the stretch. source: rantssports.com
