2014 NBA Finals

2014 NBA Finals

…And the 2014 NBA Finals came to a great end as the San Antonio Spurs pulled an unprecedented victory over Miami Heat (104  – 87), basically the largest margin (70) in NBA Finals history.

Despite, San Antonio´s regular season struggles the players and their head coach were able to get their act together and finally came out stronger than last season ending a title drought since 1999  while adding a 5th championship title to their sport history

The Spurs´ remarkable win of 4 games to one in the series ended the Heat’s 2-year reign atop the NBA. San Antonio´s head coach Gregg Popovich has been leading the team since the 1996-97 season, and there is no doubt San Antonio has been one of the most balanced basketball teams during Popovich´s era.

“This is the best Spurs championship team that [coach Gregg Popovich] has coached,” said Brent Barry, who won titles with San Antonio in 2005 and 2007. “It’s not a question. This is as complete a team as there is and has been. They can stack up against champions from any era.”

Along with Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach, Pay Riley and John Kundla, Spurs´coach Popovich has won at least five NBA titles, leading the Spurs to the playoffs for 17 straight years.

The night’s biggest winner was Kawhi Leonard the youngest Finals MVP who is in his third season with the Spurs. Leonard managed to  established himself as a strong core leader in the transition to the next San Antonio generation.

Furthermore, one of the best news in sports over the weekend was on the Seven times Formula One winner – Michael Schumacher who is out of his induced coma. Last year, Schumacher suffered a ski accident in the French Alps which caused him severe head injuries. On Monday morning, he was transferred to the Swiss Lausanne CHUV hospital for additional treatment as a long recovery awaits him.

“Michael has left the CHU Grenoble (hospital, in France) to continue his long phase of rehabilitation. He is not in a coma anymore,” spokeswoman Sabine Kehm said in a statement.
