Daytona 500 All about Danica Patrick
Once again, early last week the 30 year-old Wisconsin born Danica Patrick made the news as she becomes the first woman to take pole position in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona 500 in Indianapolis.
Her career started when she was only 10-years-old in Wisconsin and by the age of 16 she decided to move to England pursuing her racing career. There, she was able to participate in several British national series events where she raced with future F1 drivers as Jenson Button.
Later on in 2002 Danica began racing in the United States for Rahal Letterman Racing and just a couple of years later in 2005, she was officially announced to race in the IRL IndyCar Series.
Andretti Green Racing offered her a contract in 2007 and just one year later during her second season with the team, she won at Twin Ring Motegi in the Indy Japan 300. This was an extraordinary accomplishment for her career; the first woman to win at an IndyCar race.
In 2011 Danica announces she will be leaving the IndyCar series and move to the NASCAR Nationwide Series as a full time driver alongside Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Cole Whitt for the JR Motorsports team.
Patrick starts her 2013 NASCAR racing as a champion in the making by competing in the 55th edition of the Daytona 500 and finishing in 8th place. “She’s going to make a lot of history all year long” said Earnhardt and it is likely we will hear more as F1 Executive Mr. Ecclestone has shown great interest in having her race for the Formula One.
