New England Patriots Rumors
The New England Patriots may have some issues this upcoming season as they face the possibility of not having their two-tight end set to start, Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Gronkowski is ongoing injury problems, while the best tight end in the league, Hernandez, has been in the middle of a murder investigation.
Two-time Pro Bowler Gronkowski’s recovery timeline is about 12 weeks, and depending on what the authorities find or determine, Hernandez could face a suspension from the NFL. Hernandez recorded 51 receptions for 483 yards and five touchdowns last season, and Gronkowski had 55 catches for 790 yards and 11 touchdowns.
So what will the Patriots do for the next season? They definitively may be looking for some help at tight end and according to some football news the best free-agent option at this stage is Dallas Clark, who spent most of his career with the Indianapolis Colts.
The 34-year-old Clark played last season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, catching 47 passes for 435 yards. In the 2009 season, Clark had one of the most productive seasons ever for a tight end, catching 100 passes. However, he is aging and has injury concerns.
Last season, New England lost its chance to win the Super Bowl at the hands of the current champions Baltimore Ravens with a 28-13 loss in the AFC Championship game. However, for the 2013 season, the Patriots are listed in the NFL predictions as the early favorite to make another Super Bowl appearance at +800.
