Wimbledon – The Royal Third Grand Slam of the Year
The Wimbledon Championships is one of the oldest and most famous tennis grand slams of the ATP Tour and it takes place every year at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club venue in London.
Many tennis enthusiasts and sports academics considered Wimbledon the world´s cradle of tennis and the most prominent tournament due to its extensive background, special surface (grass/outdoor) and unquestionable tradition.
This year’s Wimbledon total purse stands at £22,600,000 ($34,500,000) or (€26,500,000). The men´s defending champion is the Swiss Roger Federer, who is seeking to make history by winning his 8th Wimbledon title if he manages to conquer this year’s Grand Slam.
As per the ATP World Tour rankings, the Swiss has the third position in the overall table with a total of 7,740 points. Federer is required to win the tournament in order to keep his current position and if the Scottish Andy Murray does not make it to the finals, then Federer will move to second place just below number one, Serbian Novak Djokovic.
It has been a decade since Roger Federer won his first Wimbledon at the All England Lawn and there is no doubt he is coming for more. After his most recent win at the Gerry Open Tournament in Germany, we witnessed a very strong and fit Federer who in spite of the odds seems as the man to challenge the rest of the pack and take the title home.
